A poetry reading featuring Don Mee Choi.
Don Mee Choi is a poet and translator. Her most recent collection of poetry, Hardly War (Wave Books, 2016) draws on visual artifacts from her father’s personal archive (a photographer who documented the Korean and Viet Nam wars). Her work combines the photographic image with poetry, translation (or the refusal to translate), memoir, and opera to reflect on the reverberating consequences of an undead war. Choi’s other poetry collections include The Morning News is Exciting (Action Books, 2010), a chapbook, Petite Manifesto (Vagabond, 2014), and a pamphlet, Freely Frayed. She has received a Whiting Award, a Lannan Literary Fellowship, and the 2012 Lucien Stryk Translation Prize.
Organized by the UCLA Center for Korean Studies.
